From a Shared Passion to a Successful Investment Fund
Sometimes a great adventure starts with something simple: the desire to help others. For Niels and Arjen, that was exactly the case. What started as a friendship in high school in Stadskanaal, evolved into a shared passion for investing—and eventually a way to achieve financial success together with others. During their studies in Groningen, they stayed in touch. Initially through shared hobbies like going out and traveling, but later through something completely different: cryptocurrencies. The bull run of 2020-2021 brought them a strong portfolio and the attention of friends and family. People sought advice, asked which coins to buy and when to invest. Niels and Arjen helped where they could. And with success: friends used their profits to buy new furniture, book vacations or renovate their homes and gardens.
The Downside of Success
As rewarding as it was to help others, there was a downside. Giving advice was one thing, but soon the additional responsibilities piled up: helping with password recovery, transferring funds between exchanges, and keeping track of who bought what coin and at what price. It became complex and time-consuming. One thing was clear: if they wanted to do this again during the next bull run, they had to do it differently.
From Idea to Reality
Determined to find a solution, they teamed up with tax advisor Theo Schlepers (https://www.spfiscaal.nl/) and decided to set up a Limited Partnership (CV). Family and friends who wanted to invest could now do so as silent partners, while Niels and Arjen, as managing partners under LCM Invest, made sure everything went smoothly. A key principle was to keep investing accessible to the ‘average person’. That’s why they set a low entry fee of €2,500—no vague promises or quick profits, but solid knowledge, experience and a long-term strategy.
A Flying Start
What started as a solution for friends and family grew faster than expected. Within three months, LCM Invest was a fact. On April 1, 2023, the first fund was officially launched with no fewer than 55 participants. And that was just the beginning. Through word of mouth, even 'friends of friends' became interested. In addition, collaborations opened new doors, including a special investment fund for top athletes. Today, Niels and Arjen manage five funds, with a focus on both automation and personal contact. No matter how big they grow, their core values remain the same: sharing knowledge, helping people and making investing accessible to everyone.
